People are an important resource in any organization.  For organizations to achieve their objectives effectively and efficiently, there is need to manage human resources. This course intents to provide an overview of the most important topics and current debates covered in Human Resource Management (HRM) field.  Thus, the student will understand what HRM is, how it functions in organizational settings, why people are important as organizational resources, and how this resource can be effectively managed in the 21st Century.

This course intends to equip the learners with essential human resource management concepts and techniques for effective management of people and jobs in business organizations.  The major content of the course deals with the concept of human resource management (HRM); HRM and business effectiveness; International HRM and global economy; organizational culture; commitment and employee branding; strategic HRM: people strategies and resourcing  strategies; managing diversity; performance and compensation; learning and development; and employee relations.  Prerequisite: BUAD591
