This is an online course unit meant for students who are taking a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Arts in Theology. The rationale of offering the course is to equip students who are taking Education Arts and Theology with knowledge and skills that can assist them to understand the beliefs and practices that are found in many African traditional religions. This unit or course is usually taken in the first year of study and has no prerequisite unit. The purpose of the course is to introduce students to an African world view and African religious heritage.  It is a comprehensive up to date presentation of the beliefs and practices that are found in many African traditional religions. The course will cover topics that will help the student’s understanding of ATR and religious practices involved such as: Introduction to African Traditional Religion, The African Heritage, Major Beliefs of African Traditional Religion: Belief in the Supreme being; Belief in Impersonal (Mystical) Power(s) and Many Divinities, Belief in Spirit Beings, Origin and Early State of Man, Birth, and time of youth, marriage and family, death and hereafter, rituals and festivals, religious leaders morals and values of religious morals
