This is a common course unit meant for all students who are not taking a Bachelor of Arts in Counseling Psychology. The rationale of offering the course is to equip students whose degree programmes are not counseling psychology - related with knowledge and skills that can assist them to undertake psychological activities should the need arise. This common unit or course is usually taken in the first year of study and has no prerequisite unit. The purpose of the course is a basic foundation course presenting an overview of the science of psychology.  It is a comprehensive up to date presentation of the fundamentals of psychology. The course will cover topics that will help the student’s understanding of behavior and the many theories that explain the complexities of human interactions. Concepts such as perception, consciousness, motivation, emotion, human development, personality, abnormal behavior, social psychology, psychotherapy, research methods, stress and health are some of the areas discussed. Enhancement of thinking, problem-solving skills and self-regulatory mechanics for improving memory and learning are stressed.
