This course introduces the highlights of the historical accounts of education from the known antiquities (Eden, Greek, and Roman societies) to the present East African educational systems. Topics covered are the definitions of history, education and history of education; Significance of the study of history of education to the teaching profession; The Biblical accounts of education such as education in Eden, education of the patriarchs, the School in the wilderness, School of the prophets, and the School of Jesus Christ and his disciples; The ancient secular historical accounts such as African indigenous education, education in Egypt, education in Mesopotamia, Greek education, Roman education, early Christian education; education in the period of Renaissance to the age of humanism, education of missionaries in Africa; History of education in pre-colonial and post-colonial Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
