This course covers a wide range of topics which include: national goals for education, objectives (Diploma teacher education, secondary education, biology at diploma level, biology at secondary level), contributions of biology in National development, growth and development of biology; Content: department of biology, secondary school syllabus and its interpretation,  components of a good syllabus, designing a syllabus, preparation and use of course outline, scheme of work and lesson plan, record keeping; Methods, techniques and strategies in teaching biology: lecture method, class experiments, class discussion, class demonstration, laboratory, projects, field trips, problems solving, drawings,  tutorials, reporting, and making teaching aids;  Resources applied to teaching of biology in secondary school; professional documents: Secondary school biology syllabus, course outline, schemes of work, lesson plans and lesson notes; record of work, marking scheme, student progress records, chemicals; Assessment: preparation of lesson plans, class presentations, use of teaching aids, self-evaluation, class projects; challenges facing the teaching of biology in secondary schools.

The Module is supposed to take you 45 instructional hours. Therefore, you are expected to set aside 3 hours every week to interact with Module moderator and other students registered for this course. Additionally, you may be required to spend at least 3 hours a week to work on offline  and online assignments.
