The purpose of this course is to equip students with the necessary skills to undertake a scientific research in business. Its content covers: meaning and purpose of research, types of research, basic and applied research, quantitative and qualitative research, cross-sectional and longitudinal research; the scientific research process; identifying a research problem, stating the research problem, purpose, objectives, hypothesis/research questions, significance of the study, limitation of the study, literature review, source of information and qualities of a good  literature review, methodology: research design, population and sampling methods, developing research instrument, piloting/ pretesting, data collection procedures – primary versus secondary data, plans for data analysis and interpretation; data management, data analysis: tools of qualitative and quantitative statistical analysis, interpretation, conclusions and recommendations; issues in research quality – reliability, objectivity, validity; writing the research proposal and report. 

At the end of the course, students are required to practically develop an individual research proposal with the guidance of selected advisor(s). Each student will be required to presenting and defending his or her research proposal.  This will be done during research seminar forum settings. These seminars will be made up of participants who are members of the class and other invited students or guests.  Selected panelists of two to three members being modulated by an appointed chairperson, who will play the role analyzing, guiding and evaluating developed research proposals. Final spiral bound research proposals will be graded to qualify for the next research project in the next semester.

Prerequisite:  MGMT220, MGMT221, and ENGL 105.
