The purpose of the course is to introduce learners to the counseling techniques used in counseling practice. Students will review interviewing and counseling skills essential for establishing appropriate counseling goals, maintaining professional boundaries, designing intervention strategies, evaluating client outcomes and successfully terminating the relationship. Students will also describe counseling theories that provide students with consistent models to conceptualize and select appropriate counseling interventions. The counseling skills include; Attending Behavior, Client Observation, Questioning, Encouraging, Paraphrasing, summarizing, Reflection of feelings/ meaning, Focusing, Influencing, Confrontation and Role Plays.
