An overview of communication and mass communication which discusses the meaning of communication, mass communication, types of mass communication, the nature and history of mass communication, traditional mass communication organization, models for studying mass communication, the role of mass communication, functions of mass communication for society, the future of mass media. This course provides a foundation to major areas of mass communication which include Print Media (books, newspapers, magazines), Electronic Media (Radio ,Television, the internet and the world wide web, motion pictures), Public Relations and Advertising. There will be a field trip to some media houses for print media, electronic media and public relations. Two lecture hours and one session of practicum each week.
