The course provides practice in an acute tertiary medical setting.  The students are introduced to Intensive Care, High Dependency, and Renal dialysis units during the quarter.  Student preparation for the quarter includes a course in OPD/Emergency nursing and Pathophysiology in which they are expected to acquire advanced concepts of medical-surgical nursing, preparing them to make sound clinical judgments as well as to set priorities and work efficiently in critical care situations based on sound scientific principles and evidence-based practice.

 

Learners have the opportunity to utilize relevant technology and develop basic skills in caring for patients with cardiovascular, renal, trauma and neurological conditions e.g. ECG monitoring, organic transplant monitoring, cardiothoracic surgery monitoring, hemodialysis monitoring, mechanical ventilation
