This course examines a specific type of journalism which is investigative journalism.  Some of the topics to be discussed include the meaning, origins and functions of investigative journalism; the main focus of the course is to discuss the ten steps involved in investigative reporting which include choosing a story for investigation, making a plan, using a hypothesis, researching, writing and publishing the story; Other topics  include tools of investigative journalism, media law affecting investigative journalism, ethical pitfalls of investigative journalism, possible barriers of investigative journalism,  some case studies from Kenya and beyond. There will be an educational trip to some media houses for students to interact with investigative reporters
