This course introduces students to methods of teaching agriculture as a subject taught in  secondary schools.  Topics covered include: national goals for education, objectives (Diploma teacher education, secondary education, agriculture at diploma level, agriculture at secondary school level), contributions of agriculture in National development, growth and development of agriculture; Content:  secondary school syllabus of agriculture and its interpretation,  components of a syllabus, designing a syllabus, preparation and use of course outline, scheme of work and lesson plan, record keeping; Methods, techniques and strategies in teaching agriculture: lecture method, practical demonstration, field work and field trips, discussion, experiments, laboratory, projects, dramatization, role place;  Resources applied to teaching of agriculture in secondary school: farm-land, relevant textbooks, charts, internet, fertilizers, manure, farm tools and equipment, soil samples, agriculture chemicals, etc; professional documents: Secondary school biology syllabus, course outline, schemes of work, lesson plans and lesson notes; record of work, marking scheme, and farm records; Assessment: preparation of lesson plans, class presentations, use of teaching aids, self evaluation, class projects; challenges facing the teaching of agriculture in secondary schools.
