This course discusses the use of microorganisms
in biotechnology. Microbial growth kinetics, metabolism, strain improvement,
genetics, diseases and chemotherapy, food and dairy microbiology and the use of
genetically engineered microbes in agriculture industries and medicine. The
laboratory emphasize on microbiological techniques and genetic manipulation of
microorganisms. 2 lecture hours and 2 two hour laboratories each week. Pre-requisite: BIOL 476.
