Purpose of the course

To meet the expanded needs of a broad spectrum of students pursuing degrees in nutrition, nursing and other related health professional studies. The main focus is management of the normal nutritional needs of individuals across the life span. It approaches nutrition from a basic development approach, maintaining a person centered view of individual integrity. It seeks to discuss the nutritional needs of different stages of human development. Prerequisite NUTR 234.

Expected learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

1.      Identify the nutritional needs at each of the stages of the life cycle

2.      Describe the importance of specific nutrient requirements at each stage of life

3.      Develop a training manual or pamphlet on the nutritional requirements of a specific life cycle stage

4.      Modify diets according to all stages

5.      Counsel and educate a client on the nutritional requirements

6.      Plan menus for specific life cycle stages
